TRUE or FALSE: Only teenagers get acne…..

TRUE or FALSE: Only teenagers get acne…..

FFFAAALLLSSSEEE!

We learned a lot about acne in a previous blog and discovered some remedies (Acne: Fighting back)

Let’s dive a little deeper into two of the remedies: High-Frequency and LED

WHAT IS HIGH-FREQUENCY?

This technique uses targeted thermal energy to treat acne and enlarged pores. It is a well-tolerated procedure, non-invasive with no side effects. High-Frequency uses small currents to oxygenate the skin. Oxygen is acne-causing bacteria’s worst nightmare. It reduces the pimple-inducing stuff on contact.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIGH-FREQUENCY

There are two different kinds of high-frequency electrodes:

  • Argon gas is violet and is excellent for acne/oily skin
  • Neon gas is for anti-aging benefits

HOW DOES HIGH-FREQUENCY WORK

It is based on electrical currents. This treatment uses oscillation, or movement, through a wand attached to a compact machine. The electrical currents are set at just the right frequency. During a high-frequency treatment, low-level electricity is transferred to bulb-like tips through an easy-to-hold wand. The bulb is then placed just at the surface of the skin where the electrical magic takes place on your skin.

BENEFITS OF HIGH-FREQUENCY FOR ACNE

  • Safely reduces acne-causing bacteria
  • Minimizes inflammation and redness
  • Reduces post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  • Reduces acne and prevents future breakouts
  • Oxygenates the skin
  • Reduces the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Increases circulation to stimulate collagen

HIGH-FREQUENCY vs. LED LIGHT THERAPY

WHAT IS LED?

You can learn more about what LED is in a previous blog (Seeing the Light).

LED is a similar futuristic method of acne-treating technology. While high-frequency utilizes low-level electricity to penetrate deep into the skin, LED therapy harnesses the power of light to target superficial bacteria in the skin in acne treatments. These Light Emitting Diodes emit specific wavelengths of light that provide a safe method of cell renewal. It’s a great way to treat a wide range of concerns. With LED therapy, blue light is used to treat acne, while red light is used for anti-aging benefits.

AT-HOME vs. IN-OFFICE

Treatments performed at home will typically use a lower amount of energy and therefore, provide less dramatic results than in-office. Devices in a professional environment are frequently able to deliver a higher amount of energy.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS

It's a pretty well-tolerated procedure.

To prevent drying the skin out and exacerbating acne, avoid using any at-home high-frequency devices as application technique matters.

CAN HIGH-FREQUENCY AND LED BE COMBINED TO TREAT ACNE?

Absolutely!

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to tackling acne, and something that works for one person might not work for another. Some people require a more specialized acne regiment “cocktail” of sorts to finally eliminate the breakouts for good.
